The first 24*7 Online Court in India has commenced functioning today. This online court in Kerela, Kollam, is going to change the way legal matters are dealt with as there will be access to the justice system at any time of the day or night.

It will particularly focus on the cheques bouncing offences which will be brought to the court as per the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Such cases will be addressed in the three Judicial First Class Courts as well as the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in the district of Kollam. The move is intended to curb pile up of case files and to enhance the speed in which legal solutions are offered.

Why Online Court in Kerela is Set Up?

The 24*7 ON (Open and Networked) Court in Kollam is an initiative whereby lawyers can access services such as filing applications, seeking for adjournments, following up on cases, and monitoring summonses at any time of the day for efficiency in the justice system.
This 24*7 Online Court in India would make life easier and many processes faster for the advocates and the legal related. The application will be first deployed in relation to the cheque bounce cases under Negotiable Instrument Act.
This initiative is a step towards the larger goal of ‘Digital India’ where the legal system is not only made easier for the litigants and lawyers, but also more efficient and transparent.

Key Aspects of the 24*7 ON Court

Work From Anywhere: Lawyers can do all their documentation, filing responses, attending hearings along the virtual option, check status of summonses using online medium.
No Duplication of Files: Because there is provision for amendments in the documents already submitted to the court, instead of resubmission of the entire document, the amendment can be made to the filed document.
Easily Monitor Next Steps: This will help the attorneys monitor the case and the forthcoming steps on each case.
Assisted Filing: This will allow the lawyers to get help in the process of filing in order to do it correctly without mistakes. It will include also more complicated basics such as the filing instructions with the forms to lessen mistake in filing any applications.
Time Management: A smart calendar is available for tracking schedules and organizing the work of the lawyers.

Major Highlights of the 24*7 ON Court

On the 16th of August, 2024, Kerala launched ‘24/7 ON Court, which is the first digital court in India. This milestone has signified the commencement of the use of technology in the court system.

This first Online Court in Kerala was launched by Pinarayi Vijayan, the Kerala chief minister, at the Kerala High Court focusing primarily on the cases pertaining to the Negotiable Instruments Act.
This court will take care of the online hearing of the cases with full-scale innovations starting from the filing of the petitions to the delivery of the judgments and thus intends to improve the system of justice delivery.
This will also provide a solution to the problem of a large number of cases especially about cheque dishonour cases, as it is estimated that they account for almost ten percent of the total backlog which is an issue in itself.
Another technology that is introduced is We-Solv Virtual Solution Maker system, which allows for an online conversation and negation for the tribunal motor accident claims cases.
A model e-court lyceum and digital district courts are also projected to come up in all the 14 districts of Kerala to improve the ICT infrastructure within the judiciary.
Other courts that are launched are the Special jurisprudence to deal with the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Ernakulam and a court created due to the BUDS Act in Alappuzha.
A new facilitatory and security block, as well as a monitoring system utilizing CCTV technology, is also commissioned at the High Court complex.
