How Can One Register a Cyber Crime Complaint in India ?
- The victim of the cybercrime would first have to file a complaint with the cyber crime unit near him with the help of a lawyer from the Sharks of Law.
- One would have to file a cybercrime complaint online at the https://cybercrime.gov.in/ or via offline mode. One may also have his complaint registered at the cybercrime complaint line at 155260 by the Home Ministry.
- The application letter has to be sent to the Head of the respective Cybercrime Cell including the information such as the name, address email I.D., and phone number.
- Based on the nature of the crime committed, certain documents are required to be submitted, which shall prove to be important evidence for supporting the case.
- In case, there is no cyber cell in your city, you could have your complaint registered at the local police station.
How Could One File an Online Complaint ?
In case you have decided to report an online complaint for cybercrime, following steps are required to be taken-
- The victim would have to visit the site https://cybercrime.gov.in and select the ‘File a complaint’ option.
- After having accepted the terms and conditions on the screen, select the ‘Report other cybercrime’ option.
- After selecting the ‘citizen login’ option on the following page, enter the necessary information as required.
- After completing the required steps such as entering OTP, filling up the captcha, and select the ‘submit’ option.
- Next step would be to fill the form on the next page, which is divided into four sections; it is advised to go through the information before submitting it.
- On the next page you shall be required to fill the details regarding the incident. It is advised to mention the details about the crime, and selecting the ‘Save and Next.’
- On the next page you could provide the information regarding the wrongdoer or suspect, if you have any.
- After completing the necessary information, you would have to select the ‘submit’ option.
Documents Necessary For Registering a Cyber Complaint:
- To complaint about Email Abuse
- A written complaint explaining the entire incident.
- A copy of the alleged mail as sent by the criminal,
- The heading of the email in question,
- Hard and soft copies of the Email trail mail.
- Complaints about the Fake calls, Internet banking, lottery scams or fraudulent financial transactions online
- Last six month copies of the Bank statement
- Allegations about the fraudulent transactions must be emphasised
- Evidences in the form of spam SMS or the email about the same.
- A copy of the address and identification proof according to the bank records
- A copy of the material which has been stolen, including the copyright certificate
- Details about the employee(s) who could have stolen the data
- The respective appointment letter as well as NDA signed with the said employee
