Former Minister of Maharashtra and a high profile leader from the NCP, Baba Siddiqui, 66, who was shot by three assailants on Saturday night and later died in the Hospital, was put to rest amid high security on Sunday at Baba Qabrastan in Mumbai with State honours.
Numerous teams have been formed to investigate the conspiracy leading to the murder, leading to which two shooters from the state of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana by the Crime Branch, while another was arrested from Pune, connecting them with the murder plot.
Timeline of the Incident:-
- At around 9 pm on saturday, when Baba Siddiqui, left his office to join a celebration, three individuals arrived near the place in an auto rickshaw with their faces covered and fired three shots at the victim, who later lost his life due to loss of blood.
- At 6 am on sunday, Baba Siddiqui was taken to the Cooper Hospital for post mortem.
Lawrence Bishnoi took responsibility-
- At around 12 pm sunday, Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the incident.
- In a Facebook post by an account named “Shubuu Lonkar Maharashtra,” , the Lawrence Bishnoi gang took responsibility for the incident due to his connections to actor Salman Khan and for his alleged connections with underworld figures such as Dawood Ibrahim.
- The post declared that, today Baba Siddiqui is being praised but once he was named with Dawood Ibrahim under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The gang further warned that anyone connected with Dawood Ibrahim or Salman Khan, should be beware of their acts.
Who was Baba Siddiqui?
- Baba Siddiqui, basically from the state of Bihar, came to Mumbai with his father at the age of 5.
- He started his political career in 1980s as a student leader of the Congress party. In 2004, he became a minister for a term of 4 years after winning the election of state legislative assembly thrice.
- In February, this year, he joined Nationalist Congress Party, which formed the current government in Maharashtra with BJP and Shiv Sena.
- In addition to his political career, Baba Siddiqui was also well-known for hosting grand Iftar parties during Ramadan, which was attended by Bollywood stars including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, etc.
State of the Investigation-
- It has been confirmed now that the shooters failed for more than 10 times, before they finally killed Baba Siddiqui on Saturday, October 13th.
- The former minister was shot dead outside his son MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui’s Bandra residence.
- Till date, 4 people have been arrested by the Mumbai Police in relation to the case. On 16th october, tuesday, 24 year old Harishkumar Nishad was arrested from Kaisarganj, Uttar Pradesh, and will remain under the police custody till 21st October.
- Other three people who were arrested earlier, who are Gurmail Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap as well as a milk dairy owner Praveen Lonkar. The dairy owner’s brother is Shubham Lonkar, from whose facebook account the lawrence gang took responsibility for the murder as mentioned above.
